Bank Feeds

Bank feeds let you automatically import account transactions into Xero from your bank or other financial institution. Once bank feeds are up and running, you’ll no longer need to download and import bank statements to get transactions into Xero. You can either use Yodlee feeds or Direct Feeds. Yodlee feeds are a type of bank feed sent to Xero by a third-party. Share your online banking login with Yodlee and your transactions will automatically import into Xero.  There is no additional charge for these feeds, but you are involving a third party, which many would rather avoid.  See here for more information https://help.xero.com/uk/Payments_YodleeFeeds Direct feeds are available for most banks, including HSBC, NatWest, RBS and Barclays.  There is normally a … Read More

How to structure a business

We are often asked by start ups and sole traders about incorporation and the best way to structure a business.  The answer is not simple and there are several things to think about. We have outlined the three main ways to structure a business and tried to explain the key differences as well as the advantages and disadvantages. Sole trader; Partnership; or Limited company. Sole trader You are the sole owner of the business. You are personally liable for all business debts. There are no statutory requirements governing the format of accounting records. The 10 Question Bookkeeping Review: Is it time for a change?

It’s always good to have regular reviews of all aspects of the different components of your business – online marketing, logistics, business development, sales approaches, staffing and of course, bookkeeping. In business we should never get caught up in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset, rather we should strive to move the business forward. Happy New Year from de garis accounting! And here is a great new year resolution if you run your own business….

de garis accounting – tip#3 – track expenses Why it’s helpful: You must bookkeep all your business expenses as these are tax deductible. By tracking how much you spend you may be able to better negotiate discounts and you can understand where your business spends money – enabling you to understand what parts of your business is most profitable and if any cost savings can be identified. What to do: A credit or debit card that you use solely for business can be a basic accounting system. Ring fence your business expenses to assist with tracking (i.e. from personal expenses). When you do spend cash make sure you routinely keep a note in your phone (or straight into your cloud … Read More
